Oils’ quality is improving constantly and they are becoming ever more important. However, still many users underestimate their potential.

For German drivers workshops still are the first address when it comes to questions all about the car – this also applies to engine oils. According to a new study 84 percent of the workshops interviewed state that customers ask for advice on the right lubricant regularly. However, results of the study commissioned by Shell Helix also show, that only every second workshop recommends high-quality engine oils, while 48 percent of the workshop owners and managers interviewed do not make use of this lucrative additional business.

And even though business agrees that the choice of the right lubricant is important for the optimum operation of a vehicle. After all, this is the opinion of all decision makers of free and authorised workshops without exception. Apart from the delivery service of the producers the products’ quality is the decisive criterion when it comes to choosing oils. For workshops are fully aware of the negative consequences of low-grade engine oils – such as harmful oil residues or an insufficient protection of the engine. Only ten percent of the companies interviewed offer better engine oil at each customer appointment. In the other workshops (42 percent) this additional business is made only irregularly (answers: "occasionally" or "usually").
